This lovely little Yorkie man is a quiet, gentle, adaptable sweetie. He is calm and inquisitive, friendly and accepting of change. He came into his foster home, was greeted by his new pack, enjoyed some relaxation on the deck in the sunshine and ate a good dinner. Sleeping soundly with the others, one would think he has been here forever. He knows what it is to be loved, but financial hardship resulted in his surrender.
At ten years old, he is a mature adult and weighs in at a perfect eight pounds. His coat is soft and curly and he will soon be sporting a nice new groom for warm weather.
Shortly, he will be brought up to date with his vaccinations, have dental work done, have a series of tests performed for heart worm, Lyme...etc. However, Dewie's problems go a bit further than the usual ones we encounter in Rescue. Dewie has a sizable perineal hernia which requires a complicated surgical procedure to correct. Life right now is far from normal or pleasant for him and we ask for a little prayer from you as we do our very best to help him. His recuperation will take a while. We are hoping he will be able to go to a forever home perhaps by Easter.
This bio for Dewie will be updated regularly after his surgery in mid March. In the meantime, please feel free to call but only if you have already applied to adopt. It is too time consuming to answer questions that may be answered by the website information. Dewie will remain where he is until his foster mother feels that we have chosen the best home for him. He is a jewel and someone will be fortunate to have him in their life. If you are compassionate and patient and have a true desire to provide a loving home for a dog who deserves that and more, Dewie just may be able to come and live with you.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
