Update:

Remmi is doing a lot better this week!  Last week when I took her for a walk she just stayed frozen on the sidewalk.  So every day I took her out for 5-10 minutes to get her comfortable with the outdoors.
One day she started to walk....put her nose in the fresh cut grass and I was thrilled!  We go out every day for a short time and she is getting more confident.
I cannot imagine being deaf and blind and how confusing it must be for this little girl after all she has been through to trust someone.
She is sleeping less and trying to find her way around my apartment.  She knows where every dog bed is and will stay in one bed for about an hour or more...then find another one and stay for an hour or more etc etc from room to room.  I call her Goldie Locks.
Remmi  is accepting me holding her but just for 5-10 minutes.  She loves to be petted when she is standing or laying in her bed, I assume she feels more secure.
We are working on potty training and making progress.
Next Friday she is going in for her dental.
Remmi will need a very special family to help with her disabilities and show her the love that she has never received before coming to our rescue.

Week 1
On Wednesday, May 8th, after driving 2 hours with uber, I picked up Remmi from a Brooklyn shelter.  My heart broke when I was told of her circumstances.

This little 7 pound underweight angel was stuffed in an Ikea bag and thrown out like a piece of trash in back of a church.  She was matted, filthy and covered with feces.  How could someone do this to another living being???  What is happening in this world.?   If someone didn't hear her cries she would have died in that bag.

A history of torturing pets and small animals is a behavior called zoosadism, and considered one of the signs of certain psychopathologies also known as a psychopathic personality disorder.

Remmi was so dirty and smelly....I could feel her heart pounding when she was handed to me at the shelter.  She didn't know if she was going to be hurt again.  Remmi was trembling all the way home on the 2 hour drive while I held her in my arms.  She was abused and neglected for a very long time.  Her ears are badly infected, her eyes were dripping with pus and her teeth are rotted.  She is malnourished.

I immediately took her to the vet who put meds in her ears and cleaned the crust off her eyes.  The vet said that she might regain some eyesight and regain some hearing with her medications. That is what we are hoping for.  She is on 3 different eye medications that I have to put in her eyes 3x a day five minutes apart.

Remmi is still very traumatized.  She sleeps day and night.  She eats like she has never had a meal.  We want Remmi to know what being loved is like because she obviously has never been loved or cared for in her seven years on this earth.

On a cuteness level Remmi is a 10.   She has long legs like a fawn and such a tiny face with big pointy ears.  She has not barked since I have had her, she just makes little bird sounds.

We are taking things one day at a time.  We want to give Remmi some time to sleep and decompress.

This is what our rescue is all about, second chances at a whole new wonderful life for the dogs!

I will follow up next week with Remmi's progress.

We are also asking for donations to help with Remmi's vet bills.

Remmi is staying with Lynda in Fort Lee, NJ.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
