Patty Cake, lovingly called Pancake, is a very active, playful girl.   she plays like a puppy.  She will shake up a toy and then drop it in front of you to tell you "your turn!".  She is not a bit aggressive around toys or food.  She is very happy laying on your lap or on the floor at your feet.

She knows to bring a toy back to you and the "sit" command.  For the most part she is potty trained if you watch her body language, as she will go in circles to let you know.

Walks well on harness and leash and just loves to sit in the sun on the deck.

Pancake would be perfect for that senior family looking for a girl who will put happiness, joy and activity back in their life.  Best suited to be the only dog in the household.

Update from Barbara:
Pancake has settled in very nicely.  She adapted very easily to our routine.  She knows that as soon as I get dressed in the AM, it's walk time.  And boy, does she love her walks!  Some days she is so excited that I have a hard time getting her harness on because she is wriggly  in anticipation.  She continues to be an active little girl.  She always wants to play.  She does play catch with a small ball or her small squeak toy.  She will shake her toy and drop it by your feet to have you toss it for her.
We went to the beach and she loved it.  She even chased the waves along the shore.  Pancake loves to meet new people and is quite friendly when approached.  She has such expressions when you talk to her and her bark is a real hoot!  When she barks, her ears flap!
She continues to sleep in her crate at night.  Goes into the crate without any problem.

No issues with her going outside to do her business.  She does her circle dance when she needs to go.  Currently she will take any chance to go outside as she knows she will get a little treat when she comes in.  She is a chow hound.  I think she would eat as much as I would give her.  I am trying to watch how much I feed her in hopes that she might lose a little weight.
She knows the sit command fairly well but definitely needs work on the stay command.

She is fostering with Barbara Shannon in Erie, PA so put in your application now.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
