Shhhh!  Don't tell Jezzy that she ISN'T a beauty. It would hurt her feelings. After all, she WAS a beauty - in her day.   And oh, the golden hair she had! She had golden locks like Rapunzel!

Until a few days ago... she had beautiful hair - but she had to be examined and the fools shaved her from nose to tail.  Don't worry - hair grows.

Jezzy is a sweetheart - she is curious and wants to know what is going on around her. One of her eyes has been damaged and she has a cyst the size of a small egg on her side.  Her feet are a bit unsteady on shiny floors... but she is a race horse on carpeting.

Jezzie (who we call "Nana")  is a sweet old one-eyed dog full of lumps and bumps with old broken ribs and frail, rickity, unstable hind legs and front paws that turn under when she walks which is typical in a dog that was kept in a cage most of it's life.

Jezzie can only function on carpet, and even then, doesn't walk more than 4 feet.  If she falls over on her side, she has a difficult time getting back up and sometimes freaks out because of it.  She doesn't follow her person around, she doesn't play, and she doesn't care about other animals.  She is extremely afraid of being stepped on, which is what I believe to be the reason for her physical issues.  She spends most of her day in her little beds.  She has 2 beds separated only a few feet apart and likes to travel back and forth between them.  She gets up to eat, drink and potty on her weewee pads. She has a good appetite and is weewee pad trained.  She CANNOT be around children, she CANNOT be in an active or trafficy household, and she CANNOT be handled carelessly.  She is very small and frail and needs to be in a safe place where there's no chance of anyone dropping, tripping, stepping or falling on her.  Although she has shown great improvement, she still has some sort of nasal/head congestion going on.  She finished her meds today and will be seen at Del Val in the morning to check progress and possible refill.  Because of the issue with her legs, Jezzie will be on pain meds for the rest of her life.  Now, the good news......Nana Jezzie is as sweet as sugar and as easy as pie.  She is weewee pad trained and has a good appetite.  She enjoys wet and dry food and is happy to help with your diet by sharing whatever you're eating. She loves to be held and carried around, and will get bark only when she wants to be picked up or is hungry.  Easy Peasy.

Jezzy is vacationing in Glassboro, NJ with Vic and Andrea.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
