Diamond in the Ruff

Diamond is feeling well and loved. She is so happy and playful. Squeaky toys are the very best. She loves to have the human hide the squeaky toy under her blanket and she pounces on it. Diamond sleeps all night and has potty training down pat. All the problems with the bladder stones and having to pee frequently are resolved. It did take a few weeks to retrain her bladder to hold enough to make it to the yard to relieve herself. Diamond has become very protective of her property. There are several families of Canadian Geese that visit several times a day to eat grass and nap in the shade. Diamond has taken over the job of making sure the geese move on and don’t leave those messy deposits on the front lawn and sidewalk. She will get to work as soon as I tell her “The birds are here!!” Today Diamond decided the robins weren’t allowed to land on the roof. Sheldon hasn’t figured out what all the fuss is about. This little girl is so loving and sweet, Sheldon and I have become attached and just love having Diamond as a member of our pack. Congratulations Diamond in the Ruff!!!

Rilee

Rilee was adopted and went to his forever home in Connecticut with his new mom Gisele. She made the 8 hour trip to Pennsylvania with her sister and we met at a local park. Rilee liked them immediately as was eager to show them the way as they joined us on our walk. After a good walk we all went to our house where we enjoyed a nice evening getting to know each other and playing with Rilee. Gisele scored big points with Rilee right away as she came in with a new toy and got right down on the floor and started playing with him. As the evening progressed, we heard stories of the previous yorkies she has had and several dogs that family members now have that Rilee will be able to visit and play with. Gisele and her sister spent the night in a local hotel and came back Sunday morning to get Rilee After a few snuggles and a teary goodbye from foster mom and dad, Rilee was off on his new adventure to his forever home where he will be greeted by his new sister, Loki, the cat. Rilee was a pleasure to have and provided lots of fun, love and laughter! We wish him all the best in his forever home with mom Gisele and sister Loki. Congratulations Rilee!!!

Summer

Well I have done it again! My heart could just not let this little girl go. When I saw the email about Summer I did not hesitate to call Sharon and agreed to foster her. I kept telling myself do not get attached because two dogs are enough. Given that I was caretaker for my 91 year old mom and Misty and Indy were enough to keep me very busy so I told myself. Summer came to me from NYC. While I knew she was tiny I was shocked to see just how tiny she was when I scooped her up from the great volunteer who brought her down to me. She had a very large mass on her abdomen which seemed to be as large as her. Since I knew that there was a serious need to get her to my vet I texted her and made arrangements for Summer to be seen as soon as possible. Not knowing what this mass was I was praying that it was not cancer. Dr Daria from Philadelphia Animal Hospital examined her and after reviewing all of the documentation that was sent to me she determined that while we still were not sure what this mass was she needed to be seen by a specialist. There was black drainage coming out of this mass constantly and I had to finally end up using face masks to put around her belly along with a boy band so as to not get this junk everywhere. She had lost almost a pound since being surrendered and she would not eat for me. I resorted to feeding her pureed baby food through a syringe which finally worked. We went to Blue Pearl in Levittown and saw Dr Deal because Dr Popovich was going on vacation. We pushed the fact that this was an emergency and needed attention as soon as possible. Arrangements were made for Dr Deal to see Summer who Dr Popovich said was just as good as she was. They came out and took Summer in for her appointment. A little while later the doctor called me and said they had done an ultrasound and it was determined that the large mass was a hernia with other complications surrounding her bowel. An estimate was given to Sharon and approval was given to move forward with surgery that day. I have to tell you that this little girl is such a trooper! She has been through hell and back and is the sweetest little thing. The hernia was removed and a portion of her bowel as well as her spleen since there were adhesions on it. She spent three days in the ICU. She did not want to eat and her blood sugar was very low so they had to keep her on glucose. It was finally determined that she may eat if she was sent home so they released her to me. Fast forward: Buttercup is a thriving little girl with tons of energy. She started eating and playing with the girls. She loves to fetch and stands her ground when the others try to take her toy...Congratulations Summer!!!

Bundles

Bundles aka Buddy was adopted 7/27 to a wonderful couple, Catriona and Terry. They had wanted him all along. When they arrived at my home, I met them outside with Buddy. Catriona got right down in the grass to greet him and she started getting teary-eyed. Buddy did bark at Terry. They immediately took him for a nice walk. We went inside and Buddy was all over them both, giving kisses... he was warming up to Terry! We went over everything and signed the paperwork. It was official... Buddy was going home! Excitement everywhere as he jumped into their car for the 2 hour drive home. I got teary-eyed then.... will miss the little bugger. Spoke with Catriona today and she explained how he was already comfortable. They have been going for a lot of walks and have been meeting neighbors and other dogs. He still occasionally barks at her husband, but she feels they will be best buddies before long. He slept in their bed most of the night and has been eating just fine. She will be introducing him to her own Vet this week. We will stay in touch. Everyone is happy! Congratulations Bundles!!!

Joe

He is on his way to an amazing life. Not only does he have an amazing new dad, but he gets to go to work with him every day! New dad is a surgical resident at Blue Pearl hospital where Joe had his surgical consult. When new dad examined Joe during his surgical consultation, it was love at first sight. Actually, the entire staff fell in love with Joe during his consultation. After we left the consult, new dad went straight to our website and put in an application. Once approved, it was just a matter of when he would be able to come for the official Meet and Greet. We chose Saturday morning at 8 am. He was prompt and we completed all the necessary paperwork before they were off on their new adventure. Joe is going to be spoiled beyond belief but in the best way possible. Dad had already purchased a matching polo shirt for his first day at the office. I couldn’t have picked a better match for Joe! Godspeed Joe! You are such a lucky little guy! I am glad I was able to get to know you! Congratulations Joe!!!
